Agile and Scrum Workshop with IRRI

Staffs of the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) – Software Development Data Management and Statistical Services Cluster completed the Agile & Scrum Leaders workshop held on September 20, 2019, at the Astoria Plaza, Ortigas Center, Pasig City.

The immersive 1-day program was attended by Web and API Developers, Testing Team members and Project Managers. With a strong focus on customer needs, agile teams are able to respond better to rapid changes brought about by advances in technology and disruptions in the market. Agile organizations espouse four core values:

(1) customer focus,

(2) outcome orientation,

(3) adapting to change, and

(4) empowering cross-functional teams.

Scrum is the most popular approach under the agile umbrella. Scrum teams are cross-functional by nature to eliminate departmental silos. They deliver product increments in short iterative delivery cycles called sprints. Scrum teams practice daily standups and retrospectives.

Daily stand-ups are short team meetings, focused on sharing member’s progress by answering these three questions

(1)  What did I complete yesterday?

(2) What will I complete today?, and

(3) What are the barriers?
